About AZSP

Established on 13th September 2018, the Applied Zoological Society of Pakistan (AZSP) is the professional body that represents Pakistani zoologists, scientists and allied health professionals in the various fields of life sciences. AZSP provides a platform for professional exchange, education and collaboration amongst its members, with the aim to promote advancement of biosciences in the country. With the increasing interest in biosciences and the rapid development of this field in Pakistan and worldwide, AZSP's membership has been growing over the years

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali (TI, SI )
Chairman AZSP

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali (SI, TI) is PhD in Biological Sciences from University of Wales, UK and has 35 years of Teaching, research and administrative experience. Prof. Ali was appointed Vice Chancellor QAU, Islamabad in 2018 till 2022 in recognition of the excellent work he did at GCUF and University of Jhang as Vice Chancellor by mobilizing younger faculty members, inspiring students, building the entire campus, promoting innovation and commercialization, building bridges with business community and enhancing the standard of the institution. During his academic career, he has served in BZU as registrar Officer, resident officer, Director ORIC, Chairman transport Committee, Chairman sports, Director Biotechnology, Chairman Research and Planar Group etc. He has been awarded Best University Teacher for the years 2002, 2005 and 2011 by Higher Education Commission of Pakistanin recognition of his teaching and research excellence. He has supervised 100 M.Phil. 35 PhD students. Dr. Muhammad Ali is also the writer of two International Books and presented papers in any national and international conferences. He has published 235 papers in national and international well reputed journals with IF 470. Prof. Ali had been conferred Tamgha-eImtiaz by President Islamic Republic of Pakistan on Independence Day 2015 and Sitara-e- Imtiaz 2022 for his outstanding performance and excellence in the field of Biological Sciences. Prof. Ali won and completed 30 projects funded by national and international agencies. Prof. Muhammad Ali is amongst one of few whose research is linked with Animal sciences and Biotechnology. He has vast experience of establishing new institutions and centers, under his dynamic leadership Construction of New Campus of Government College University Faisalabad including 20 Departments and 10 Girls Hostels and 100 residences for faculty members completed. Prof. Ali established Campuses of GCUF at Chiniot and Hafizabad in his tenure. He also won grants for the establishment of Center for Undergraduate Studies and Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan. Prof. Ali is the Chairman Syndicate, Member Board of Governors and Member selection Board of more than 50 Universities and Institutes all over the Pakistan and also member of Cabinet Division, Islamabad. Heis member of search committees for the appointment of Vice Chancellors, member of selectionboard of Ministry of Federal Education and Professional training. HEC and member of board of CDA. Prof. Ali is elected as Chairman Vice Chancellors Committee of all the Vice Chancellors of Pakistan in (2019). He is the selected fellow of Pakistan Academy of Sciences since 2020.

Prof. Dr. Farhat Jabeen

Vice Chairperson AZSP

Prof. Dr. Farhat Jabeen is the vice chairperson of Applied Zoological Society of Pakistan and Dean Faculty of Life Sciences, Government College University. She holds PhD degree from Quaid i Azam University Islamabad and two post doctorates from Newcastle University, UK. She is awardee of INSPIRE project funded by the British Council UK and HEC Pakistan. She also got the award of SPEKE grant funded by British council UK. She is also the awardee of three national research projects funded by HEC Pakistan. She is the awardee of HEC best university teacher award 2016. She got excellent leadership awards from Islamic Development Bank Jaddah, Saudi Arabia for the years 2011 and 2015. Dr. Farhat Jabeen has attended over 68 international conferences. She has published over 170+ peer reviewed articles in high impact science journals. She has been selected as a senior women leader in VIPP program a collaborative venture of Michigan State University and Pakistan National Academy of Higher Education.

Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Sultana

General Secretary AZSP

Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Sultana is the General secretary of AZSP and working as professor in department of Zoology, GCUF. She holds the PhD degree from Quaid i Azam university Islamabad and two post doctorates, one from QAU and other from Oxford Brookes University, Oxford United Kingdom. After her M.Sc., she passed CSS examination but having strong passion for higher education, she joined the higher studies. She has served as the chairperson of department of zoology, GCUF. She also holds the additional charge of coordination of library and university hall council. She has served Government College University Faisalabad for more than 20 years. She has more than 100 plus publications. She is active member of many academic bodies of other university.

Prof. Dr. Salma Sultana

Joint Secretary AZSP

Prof. Dr. Salma sultana is the Joint secretary and principal organizer of applied zoological society of Pakistan. She is working as chairperson of Department of Zoology, Government College University Faisalabad. She has completed her post doctorates from New Castle University UK. She completed her PhD in biology and M.Phil. in genetics from Quaid i Azam university Islamabad. She has research expertise in the field of biomolecular technique, genetics, fisheries, epidemiology of genetic diseases. She has experience of 22 years.

Prof. Dr. Abdul Shakoor Chaudhry

Dr. Azhar Rasul

Advisor AZSP

Dr. Abdul Shakoor Chaudhry is advisor of Applied Zoological Society of Pakistan and working as senior lecturer in Newcastle University, UK and adjunct Professor Department of Zoology, Government College University Faisalabad. He holds his PhD degree from University of Cambridge, UK in Animal Nutrition. He has completed his fellowships from Cambridge Philosophical Society and Cambridge Commonwealth Society (UK). He is registered and certified animal scientist. Dr Abdul Shakoor Chaudhry has conducted research, teaching and engagement at universities of Newcastle, Queensland, Bristol, Cambridge and Faisalabad. He has initiated, managed and completed numerous research and training projects. He leads British Council & HEC funded INSPIRE and TNE projects jointly with colleagues at GCUF (2011-18).

Coordinator/ Focal Person

Dr. Azhar Rasul is Focal person and Coordinator of The Applied Zoological Society of Pakistan and working in Department of Zoology, Government College University Faisalabad. He received MSc and M. Phil degree in Biology from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Pakistan. He obtained PhD fellowship jointly awarded by Ministry of Education (MOE), Pakistan and China Scholarship Council (CSC), China and completed his Ph.D. in Cell Biology (Chemical Cancer Biology) from Northeast Normal University, China. He later received China postdoctoral fellowship in 2012, Japanese Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) Postdoctoral fellowship in 2013, and subsequently Tokyo Biochemical Research Foundation (TBRF) fellowship in 2015. He has published over 180+ peer-reviewed articles with cumulative impact factor over 500 and with over 5000+ citations.
